The 3D Printer

    The Mechanical structure of the Printer is composed of the aluminum Sigma Profiles for their availability and ease of use.Gantry or rail system of the printer uses the belts and pulleys to transfer the movement of the motors to motion of the extruder. Micro Switches are responsible for the homing phase (Zero position) for the printer calibration.A heated bed is used to maintain the substrate that is going to be used for printing at the optimal temperature. The power supplies in the electronics lab are used to power the printer system.

    The process of building our 3D printer is as follows. First, due to the cost effectiveness, we bought a new printer instead of building it using individual parts. Then, we modified the firmware which is connected to the motherboard of the printer. It was modified according to the parameters we needed the printer to work with. Additionally, we added a device called BLTouch. This device is a sensor which is responsible for the bed calibration.

Physical Architecture

    The web interface system is programmed to take all the user information and contain all the details of the working of the printer and the printed model. The electrical system acts as the gateway of conversion of all commands taken by the web system and feeds them to the mechanical system. In other words, it controls the whole process. The mechanical system operates on the commands given to it and should by the end of each process , using the material extruded by the nozzle of the printer, produce a 3D model.

    Controller cards are not designed to run every firmware, and similarly, firmware is not designed to be universally supported. When choosing the firmware, we need to see if the option you choose is compatible with the features of our controller card. That's why we made the configuration process with the appropriate settings for our 3D printer.

    We produced a printer which is able to print 3D models using any material added to the extruder syringe. The material just needs to have a high viscosity. According to the viscosity, the syringe head which has a specific thickness is applied. The printer can print on any surface which has a specified height, and it can print a 3D model in a Gel medium. The printer also can print models using WiFi.
